Set me as a seal upon your heart,
As a seal upon your arm;
For love is as strong as death,
Jealousy as cruel as the grave;
Its flames are flames of fire,
A most vehement flame
(Song of Songs 8:6).
How much do you love me?
Isn’t this a question we often
ask? We ask our parents, siblings, friends, spouses and sometimes even Jesus
Himself. We want to know how much we are valued, how much people are willing to
do for us, and how far they are willing to go for us. Who do you think loves
you the most?
The Bible tells us that Jesus is the one that loves us the most.
His love for us transcends death
and reaches us from beyond the grave. He is the Bridegroom that redeemed His bride
with His own blood. As a response to this love, we yearn to set our Beloved as
a seal on our hearts and arms.
First, to set Him as a seal upon
our hearts is to let Him be the master of our hearts and give ourselves to Him
completely. Through constant communion with Him in prayers and meditating on
His words daily, we give Him ownership of our very being.
Subsequently, we need to also set
Him as a seal on our arms to proclaim to the world that we belong to Him. In
our lives, we have to shine forth the light of Christ. Our every deed must
reflect His loving-kindness. When people look at us, they must be able to
identify us as Christians.
So, keeping in mind the extent of
the love of Jesus for us, let us reflect upon ourselves today:
Do my life and thoughts read “Property of Jesus”?
