The Glory and Victory of Israel (5:5-15)

E.     The glory and victory of Israel (5:5-15)

1.       (v5-6). This Messiah can protect Israel and be their peace. When enemies attack Israel, He will raise up many prophets and leaders to defend against the enemy’s invasion. They will take over the land of the enemy Nimrod (Gen 10:9-12) and deliver the Israelites.

 a.      The spiritual meaning of these verses: Jesus Christ the Lord of peace (Jn 14:27; 2 Thess 3:16) will send His servants to fight the battle of the gospel so all the believers who have received the Lord Jesus as their Savior will have peace in their heart (Jn 16:33). He will keep us from the hours of trial (Rev 3:10).

2.       (v7). The remnant of Israel will be scattered among the nations. God will multiply them as dew and the showers of rain. Rely on God, not on man (Prov 3:5).

 a.      These believers will gain a new life through God’s word and the Holy Spirit (Ps 72:6; Deut 32:2; Isa 32:15; Hos 6:3)

3.       (v8). The remnant of Israel will be established by God. They will be strong and defend against every foe. They will destroy them as a lion in a flock. (Num 23:24).

 a.      Those born of God will be protected. The evil one cannot harm him (1 Jn 5:18). They will receive authority and power to overcome the evil one (Lk 10:19)

4.       (v9). Pray for the destruction of Israel’s enemies. Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests to overcome enemies (Ex 17:11; 1 Tim 2:8; Eph 6:18).

5.       (v10-14). Before God punishes the Israelites, and before He establishes them again, He will cut off every arm they rely on and destroy all the idols they worship (Isa 1:25-26; Rom 11:25).

6.       (v15). Besides Israel, God will have revenge on the rebellious gentiles because they refuse to listen to God’s commandments but worship idols (Isa 60:12). God does not show favoritism (Rom 2:11). God will give to each person according to what he has done (Rom. 2:6).
