Delight Yourself in the Lord

Though wicked people surround him, the psalmist sings of the justice of God. He knows that as long as he loves and trusts God, his requests will be granted. Are you caught up in the worries of the world? Do you know that if you rely on God, He will take care of your problems for you?

Take delight in the Lord and trust in Him to take care of your concerns. This instruction is repeated in the New Testament: "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you" (Mt 6:33). The context may be different; the worries are what to eat, drink, and wear rather than the deeds of the wicked. Yet the underlying teaching is the same: this life is not lasting; therefore, do not worry about it. Think beyond this life to the kingdom of God, to the fulfillment of His work. God will provide for your needs and give you the solutions to your troubles.

Does this mean that when we put God first, He will give us whatever we want? Yes, for this is the promise of God. It does not mean, however, that if we say we love God, He will give us all that we ask for in this world. When we delight ourselves in the Lord, we obey His commandments and treasure His words in our hearts. When we delight ourselves in the Lord and seek first His kingdom, we no longer live for ourselves, but for Christ. We will submit our wishes to God’s, so that what we desire is for God’s will to be done. In this, we will surely find fulfillment.

Your life may be filled with daily concerns and a busy schedule. Yet as you go through life, continually reevaluate your priorities so that you may take delight in the Lord. In return, you will receive the desires of your heart.
