Hidden in Christ

For you died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. (Colossians 3:3)

How can we allow others to see Christ in us?

As humans, we crave attention. It is a haven we resort to in order to comfort our loneliness and develop a sense of self-worth. That is why people spend their whole lives in pursuit of proving themselves to others. We dress, act, and speak in a certain way to be perceived as intelligent, successful, or even godly. The danger in this pursuit is that it is intended to glorify ourselves and not God.

Giving up ourselves is one of the most difficult parts about being Christian—because it is like putting to death someone you love. In doing so, we give up the things that define who we are. Most of us are not willing to make this sacrifice because we feel that we are losing a lot when in reality, we are gaining everything.

When Christ lives in us many people will not see and maybe this is what disappoints us. Many will not see the patience we put forth to love our families, the faithfulness we commit when we complete a task, or the beauty we possess from a gentle and quiet spirit—but their ignorance should not matter.

Let us delight in how God sees us so that we may establish our haven of self-worth in Jesus Christ. When we stop seeking attention from others and caring about what people see, in God’s timing, the whole world will see that Christ is in us.

When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. (Colossians 3:4)

Reflection Questions

1. Do we seek attention from others?

2. Do we make choices that glorify God or ourselves?
