Ezekiel Chapter 3 and 4

I.       Ezekiel Chapter 3: Sending the Prophet, Ezekiel

A.     Ezekiel who eat to scroll (3:1-3)

cf. (Mt 4:4, 1Pt 2:1-2)

·         The scroll was sweet as honey in his mouth

(Jer 1:9)  (1Tim 1:2, 2Tim 1:2, 1Cor 16:10) (2Tim 2:15)  (Phi 2:16, Heb4:12) (Eph 6:10-13) (Hos 4:1) (Jn 1:1-3, 14) (Mt 4:4)

B.     Situation of Israelite (3:4-15)

·         Hardness of their heart

·         Need of power of Holy Spirit (Ez 36:26-27)

C.     Responsibility of Watchman (3:16-21)

cf. (Is56:10, Jer6:17, Hos9:8)

1.        to the wicked

2.        to the righteous

·         Watchman has to preach the message regardless of the responses of listeners (2Tim 4:2)

·         Neglect of duty leads to judgment.

D.     Ezekiel’s Silence (3:22-27)

1.        Get up, go out to the plain and listen to His words (22, 23)

2.        Requested to be dumb (24-26)

3.         Allow him to speak when He grants His permission (27)

·         Total submission, according to God’s guidance

·         Those who reject the message of God can not receive His grace (Lk 16:31, Mt 11:15)

II.    Ezekiel Chapter 4: Predicted Siege of Jerusalem

A.     Symbolic actions for the Siege of Jerusalem (4:1-3)

(4:1-5:4): Four actions

1.        Inscribe a city on a brick (1-3)

2.        Lie down (4-8)

3.        Take Small amount of food (9-17)

·         God does not want to receive worship without their heart (Is1:11-15)

·         God highly evaluates those who have a submissive heart (Lem4:1-2)

B.     Carry the Sins of Israel (4:4-8)

1.        Sins of N Kingdom (4-5)

2.        Sins of S Kingdom (6-8)/ (2Kings17:19-23)

·         God’s Judgment will not be changed

·         God’s Judgment will be merciless

C.     God’s Judgment with Scarce of Food (4:9-17)

1.        Only little amount of food (9-11)

2.        Spread among the nation Eat unclean food (12-15)

3.        Jerusalem will be perished without food (16-17)

·         Total submission, according to God’s guidance

·         Those who reject the message of God can not receive His grace (Lk16:31, Mt11:15)
