1. Undergoing
circumcision (2-9).
a.
A sign for the elect (Gen 17:9-14).
b.
Prepare to keep the Passover (Ex 12:48).
c.
They were not circumcised for forty years after
coming out of Egypt
(4:5, 7).
d.
Prefiguration:
(a)
Baptism cleanses a guilty conscience (1 Pet
3:21).
(b)
After baptism, we become citizens of God’s
kingdom (Eph 2:11-13, 19-20).
(c)
True circumcision purges our filthiness and
initiates a victorious life (Rom 2:28, 29; 1 Cor
7:18, 19; 2 Cor 5:17).

Keeping the Passover feast (10).
a.
Remember the deliverance from Egypt
(Ex 12:13, 21-29).
b.
Prefigures
that Christ is the sacrificial lamb (Jn 1:29; 1 Pet
1:19).
c.
Ways to
observe:
(a)
To eat the lamb, unleavened bread, and bitter
herbs (within the building).
(b)
To tuck the cloak into the belt, to have sandals
on the feet, and to have the staff in the hand.
(c)
First underwent circumcision.
(d)
Those who purposely refuse to keep will be cut
off (i.e., those who cannot keep due to some causes, need to keep it again on
the next month).
3.
Enjoy the
produce of the land of Canaan
(11, 12).
d.
In the wilderness, God sustained them for forty
years with manna.
(a)
Do not worry about life (Mt 6:33).
(b)
Do not live by bread alone (Deut 8:2, 3).
(c)
Rely on God, who bestows abundantly to man.
e.
They enjoyed the produce, and the manna ceased.
f.
The Lord’s grace is sufficient.
4.
Do the right things diligently.
g.
To receive the hidden manna till the entering
the eternal kingdom (Jn 6:31-35, 47-50; 1 Pet 1:
23-25; Jn 6:63, 5:39).

The commander of the army of God (13-15).

The commander—the appearance of God. Command the
angels to fight along with the Israelites (13).

God is the chief commander and we are His servants.

“What message does my Lord have for His
servant?” (14)

The place where they are standing is holy (15;
Ex 3:5).

The place where God manifest Himself.

God moves around in the camp. The camp must be
holy (Deut 23:9-14).
