AN OPEN BOOK
In this electronic age, the
details of our lives are more public than at any other time in history. As we
chronicle our experiences, emotions, and opinions online (through blogs, photo
sites, Xanga, Facebook,
MySpace, YouTube, etc.), our life literally becomes an open book for everyone to
read. I recently joined Facebook. People are notified
as soon as we post new comments or pictures. Our status updates tell them what
we are doing at the moment. Our emoticons tell them how we are feeling.
As our lives become more
transparent, it becomes more difficult to hide segments of our lives from
different groups of people. For example, if everyone is reading the same blog, it’s
hard to act, speak, or dress differently to church and school people. If you
point to Jesus on Saturdays and elsewhere during the week, people will know.
The second verse of “Let Others
See Jesus in You” by B.B. McKinney tells us:
Your life’s a book before their eyes,
They’re reading it thro’ and thro’;
Say, does it point them to the skies,
Do others see Jesus in you?
Keep telling the story, be faithful and true,
Let others see Jesus in you.
So where exactly do our “open
books” point to? Are we consistent?
As we blog away and write in the
open book of our life, let us remember that God also keeps a record of our
lives. Revelations records:
And another book was opened, which is the Book
of Life. And the dead were judged according to their
works, by the things which were written in the books.
Let us strive to edify Christ in
the book of our life so that our names will be on the Book of Life.
Questions for Reflection:
Do others know that God is
important in your life and that you are trying to imitate Christ?
Is there anything about your life that distracts people from God or discredits
Him?
