The Ten Commandments for Young People

The Ten Commandments For Young People

1.       'Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth' (Ecc 12:1).  "And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength" (Mk 12:30).  Make Jesus Christ the Lord over your life.

2.       'Little children, keep yourselves from idols (I Jn 5:21).  Modern day idols include T.V. or movie stars, pop or rock singers, sports and other popular personalities.  "You shall not make for yourself a graven image' (Ex 20:4).

3.       'You shall not take the Name of the LORD your God in vain" (Ex 20:7).  The Name of the One True God is JESUS, the name above all names.  Therefore, we must honor and respect it (Phil 2:9-11; Ps 68:4).  Do not swear at all, just be truthful (Mt 5:3337).

4.       Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy" (Ex 20:8).  You may work, study or play on six days, but Saturday, being the seventh day of the week, has been blessed and made holy by the Lord to become the Sabbath day; therefore you must follow the Lord's example and attend church services on that day (Gen 2:1-3; Heb 4:8-9; Isa 58:13-14; Lk 4:16, 31).

5.       Children, obey your Parents in the Lord, for this is right.  Honor  your father and mother" (this is the first commandment Promise), that it may be well with you and that you may live long on the earth. (Eph 6:1-3).  Do not let your parents down since they are the ones who brought You up.

6.       "You shall not kill" (Ex 20:13), The Lord Jesus taught, "You have heard that is was said to the men of old, 'You shall not kill; and whoever kills shall be liable to judgement.' But I say to you that every one who is angry with his brother (or sister) shall be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother (or sister) shall be liable to the council, and whoever says, “You fool" (or stupid) shall be liable to hell fire" (Mt 5:21-22).

7.       "You shall not commit adultery' (Ex 20:14).  "Shun immorality.  Every other sin which a man commits is outside the body; but the immoral man sins against his own body" (I Cor 6:18).  "if any one destroys God's temple, God will destroy him.  For God's temple is holy, and you are that temple." (I Cor 3:17). "So shun youthful passions and aimed at righteous-ness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call upon the Lord from a pure heart" (2 Tim2:22).

8.       "You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, nor lie to one another" (Ex 20:15; Lev 19:11). Taking things from someone without his or her consent is stealing. "He who robs his father or his mother and says, 'That is no transgression', is the companion of a man who destroys" (Pro 28:24).

9.       "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor" (Ex 20:16). "You shall not utter a false report. You shall not join hands with a wicked man, to be a malicious witness" (Ex 23:1).

10.   You must not greed over your neighbor's things (Ex 20:17).  Be contented with what the Lord Jesus Christ has given you, and be thankful for what you have (1 Tim 6:6-10: Heb 13:5-6)
