Remembered as Blessing

            “The memory of the righteous is blessed, but the name of the wicked will rot.”  (Prov. 10:7)

Sooner or later, each of us will be confronted with the death of a relative, a friend, an acquaintance, a stranger, or even a celebrity. A handful of those people may evoke fond memories and inspire us even with the passage of time, whereas the vast majority will be but a fleeting memory, simply because they didn’t make any difference in our lives.

People will mourn, be indifferent or, in rare instances, rejoice and be relieved, as in the case of someone who caused pain and suffering for others.  In the case of influential figures, their contributions to society are honored with something named after them, a statue chiseled in their likeness, or the date of their birth or death set as a holiday.  Most people, however, pass on in relative obscurity.

Death doesn’t discriminate.  It doesn’t matter who you are, how old you are, where you live, or how much you possess.  None of us know when we will face Judgment Day.

How would you like to be remembered?  What would you like to have etched on your tombstone?  As a Christian, the question is not only how you will be remembered by God, but also will you be remembered at all.  In other words, “Is your name recorded in the Book of Life?”

How would you like to be remembered?  Your answer will determine how you live on a daily basis.  Start composing your own epitaph and obituary by the way you live.  Make your day count.  Don’t waste it.
