Word Study

The longest name in the Bible is Maher-shalal-hash-baz, meaning “speed the spoil, hasten the prey” (Isa 8:1). Isaiah was commanded to give this symbolic name to his son (Isa 8:3, 4).

The shortest name in the Bible is Og, meaning “long-necked” (Num 32:33). Og was the king of Bashan and was defeated by the Israelites under Joshua’s leadership (Josh 12:1,4).
