I.       Purpose of Studying Evangelism

1.       Knowing God’s redemptive plan (Eph 1:3-14)

II.    Origin of Evangelism

1.       Man was enticed by evil and strayed far from God (Gen 3:1-6)

2.       God came to seek sinners (Gen 3:8-10)

3.       God prepared salvation for sinners (Gen 3:21; 12:1-3)

4.       The prophets promised in the Scriptures (Gal 3:8-9; Rom 1:2)

5.       Christ came to proclaim salvation (Heb 2:3-4)

6.       Christ accomplished salvation on the cross (Eph 2:13-17)

7.       The Holy Spirit testified with the disciples (Jn 15:26; Acts 1:8)

8.       The Lord sent the disciples to preach the word of repentance and remission of sin (Lk 24:47-48; Acts 2:38)

III. Goal of Evangelism

1.       Proclaim the name of the Lord Jesus (Mt 6:9)—God’s salvation

3.       Obey God’s will (10; Jn 4:34)—Heaven on earth

IV.  Basis of Evangelism

1.       God’s will (Eph 3:8-11; 1Tim 2:4-7)

2.       The promise of the Bible (Rom 1:1-5; 1Pet 1:10-12)

3.       The sending of the Holy Spirit (Rom 10:15; Jn 20:21-23)

V.     Principles of Evangelism

1.       Speak as the oracles of God (1Pet 4:10)

2.       Speak according to the teaching of the Holy Spirit (1Cor 2:1-5,13)

3.       Rightly divide the word of truth (2Tim 2:15)

4.       Speak in proportion to our faith (Rom 12:6)

VI.  Essential Criteria of Evangelism

1.       The authority of Christ (Mt 28:18-20)

2.       The spirit of a servant (Mk 1:12-13; 1Cor 9:19)

3.       The likeness of a true man (Lk 2:52; Lk 14:14-15)

4.       The testimony of God’s Son (Jn 1:14,18; Php 2:14-16)

VII.           Equipping Ourselves

1.       In-depth knowledge of our belief (2Tim 1:11-12)

2.       A God-given heart (2Tim 1:6-7)

3.       Putting on the full armor of God (Eph 6:10-17)

4.       A spirit of self-sacrifice and saving others (1Cor 10:24.33)

VIII.        Awareness of the Commission to Preach

1.       All nations will be blessed through you (Gen 12:1-3; Gal 3:8)

2.       Preach the good news to all creation (Mk 16:15-16)

3.       Teach the disciples to keep Christ’s commands (Mt 28:20)

IX.  Strategy for Preaching

·         Adjust the method according to the audience and the place without altering the goal and the principles: Become all things to all men, wisely utilizing the occasion and the opportunity (1Cor 9:20-23)

XI.  Tips on Winning Souls

1.       Let down the net by faith (Lk 5:4-6)

2.       Pull the net carefully: follow up with love (6)

3.       Seek the help of companions: work together with one heart (7)

4.       Have a humble heart: “I am a sinner” (8; Eph 3:8)

5.       Leave behind all things: do not be anxious about anything (Lk 9:59-62)

6.       Exhort gently: teach with gentleness (2Tim 2:24-26)

7.       Intercede with persistence: seeking God’s pleasure (1Tim 2:1-3)
