(Kudat)

GA Sabab

Kudat is a small township situated in the north of Sabah, west of the Marudu Bay. It was the first the capital of Sabah. The population there consists of mainly Chinese engaged in business and farming(coconut plantation).

In June, 1927 Dn. Mark Chin and Dn. Philemon Ho were sent by the then Branch Board of North Borneo, True Jesus Chruch to propagate the gospel at the Pak Pak Beach in Kudat. The families of Chin Pit Tat, Wong Sin Fatt and Chin Tse Hiun from the Seventh Day Adventists Church accepted the truth and were baptised.

A meeting was convened for the setting up of the church and the ordinations of Eld. Thaddaeus Chin, Dn. Simon Chin, Dn. Joses Wong and Dns. Lois Kong. The registration of the church with the local authority concerned was also carried out at the same time. A prayer-house was set up at Eld. Thaddaeus Chins residence. Apart from the Sabbath service, the daily evening service was also being held.

Most of the truth seekers came for the healing of their sicknesses and such many were healed. With the manifestation of miracles, the believers increased to about 40. Later, both Dn. Joses Wong and Dn. Simon Chin moved to Jesselton(Kota Kinabalu)because of livelihood. After about two years later, Eld Chin passed away and as a result the church suffe red several setbacks. Thus, Dn. Micah Wong and Dns. Mary Chin were ordained to manage the church affairs until 1942 when the then North Borneo(Now Sabah)was under the Japanese occupation and church service was stopped. After the Japanese surrendered in September1944,Sabah was once again ruled by the British and life returned to normal gradually.

Church service resumed in 1949 at the residence of Dn. Joshua Lu with about 10 believers. In the same year, Dn. Philip Tyan of the Branch Board was invited by the church to assist in the divine works in Kudat and with the presence of the Holy Spirit, the believers increased gradually. A small new wooden church building was erected at the old church site(about 1.5KM from the township)in the year 1953.

Both Dn. John Yang and Dn. Lin Fong Sheng were assigned by the Taiwan General Assembly to assist in the holy works in Sabah in 1966. Under the guidance and encouragement of these two deacons, Religious Education classes for children were established. A bigger wooden church building with a seating capacity for 250 people was rebuilt at the old site in the year 1967.

By the grace of God, a 1.9 acre piece of land at a price of MYR 120,000.00 was purchased in the year 1987. A Building Committee was formed to solicit fund in 1990. Thanks be unto our Lord, a new church building costing more than MYR 500,000.00 and a new block of classrooms complete with preachers room and other facilities were completed and dedicated to our Lord on November 9,1996. Due to many believers moving to other places for their livelihood, the membership now is less than 100.
