Why should I suffer for something Adam did?

We are all born of Adam and Eve—they were our first parents. Therefore the Bible says we are conceived in sin (Ps 51:5). Even through we originate from our parents, we are all descended from Adam and Eve. Adam carried all of humanity within himself, like an oak tree that holds an oak table within itself. When Adam sinned, he brought sin and death into the world, and every descendant of Adam exists in that fallen state.

Death brought forth death, just as an oak tree produces an oak table. We wouldn’t expect an oak tree to produce a plastic table. Neither do we expect an orange tree to bear apples. Therefore Romans 5:12 tells us that “through one man sin entered the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned.” Physical death is our fate, for we are all destined to die (Heb 9:27). And unless we are spiritually reborn (Jn 3:5), we will face the lake of fire (Rev 20:14).
