DVCreation of Living CreaturesGenesis 1:20-25“So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind... And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.” —Genesis 1:21,25Have you ever marveled at how a particular animal is designed and created? Name one example.
One of the differences between animals and people is that we worry and they don’t. How can you become carefree in your life but still make good use of the mind and intelligence God has given to you?
On the fifth and sixth days of creation, God made all the living creatures, including fish, birds, reptiles, insects, and mammals. When we speak of the animal kingdom, we marvel at the vast diversity of God’s creation. Just the sheer number of species is astounding enough. The species we know are but a fraction of all species. Today, about 800,000 species have been identified, and some scientists believe that the number could well reach over 10 million if all were identified. These living creatures vary widely in size, color, shape, and behavior. It had taken centuries for humans just to arrive at the present classification of all animals.
O Lord, how manifold are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all. The earth is full of Your possessions—this great and wide sea, in which are innumerable teeming things, living things both small and great... These all wait for You, that You may give them their food in due season. What You give them they gather in; You open Your hand, they are filled with good. You hide Your face, they are troubled; You take away their breath, they die and return to their dust. You send forth Your Spirit, they are created; and You renew the face of the earth. (Ps 104:24-30)Our God is the most ingenious and resourceful designer. Like a skillful artisan, He designed and made each creature after its own kind. He also blessed them to be fruitful and multiply. By His loving care, He sustains all creatures with His Spirit. This is the God we worship and trust. With His manifold wisdom, no problem in our lives is ever too difficult for Him. The Lord Jesus reminds us that our Heavenly Father even feeds the birds in the air and watches over the sparrows (Mt 6:26; Lk 12:6-7). How much more will He provide for and protect us, His beloved children! Let us stop carrying our own burdens and learn to depend on our all-wise and ever-loving Creator.
Our Lord and Creator, you have shown us your wisdom, power, and love through your creation. Teach us to always lean on you and not trust in our own limited resources.
