As members of the body of Christ, we need to stay in fellowship with one another in the Lord (see Acts 2:42-47). Church services are held for members: - To worship together (see Mt 18:20; Heb 12:22-24);
- To encourage one another (Heb 10:24-25; see 1 Cor 14:3-4);
- To pray together (Mt 18:19-20, see Acts 1:14; 2:42; 4:23-31; 12:5,12); and
- To edify one another with spiritual gifts (Eph 4:12-16),
so the body of Christ may be built up to become the dwelling place of God’s Spirit (Eph 2:19-22). Without the support of other members, we may falter in our faith and lose our way. By not coming to church, we also lose the opportunity to serve the Lord in the ways He has commanded us. The Lord Jesus promises us that “where two or three are gathered in My name, there am I in the midst of them†(Mt 18:20). When we worship Him together through songs and prayer, study His word through sermons and discussions, and serve and love one another, He will bless us and be with us.
