I.       Outline

·         Describe the calamities of Israel people (5:1-18)

·         Plead for God’s restoration (5:19-22)

II.    Reflection:

A.     ‘Look, O Lord, and consider’ or ‘ Remember, O Lord’ appears many times in this book. (1:8, 1:11, 2:20, 3:19, 5:1)

·         God turned his face away from his people because of their sins. (2 Thess 1:8-9)

·         Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. (James 5:13)

·         Remember what was past

·         Look and see what is present

·         The disgrace comes from sin.  (7, Ne Ch1)

B.     Our inheritance has been turned over to aliens. (2)

·         Sons are a heritage from the Lord, children a reward from him. (Ps 127:3)

C.     We must buy the water we drink. (4)

·         Then Caleb gave her the upper and lower springs. (Judges 1:15)

·         “Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy, and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.” (Is 55:1)

D.     We submitted to Egypt and Assyria to get enough bread. (6)

·         We submit to the world in order to gratify our sinful desires.

E.     Our fathers sinned and are no more, and we bear their punishment. (7)

·         He punishes the children and their children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation. (Ex 34:7)

F.      The crown has fallen from our head. (16)

·         You, who I love and long for, are my joy and crown. (Philip 4:1)

G.     You, O Lord, reign forever; your throne endures from generation to generation. (19)

·         Praise the Lord in any circumstance. (Ps 34:1)

H.    Restore us to yourself, O Lord, that we may return; renew our days as of old. (21)

·         Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to knowledge of the truth. (2 Tim 2:25)
