I.       Ezekiel Ch.1: The vision of 4 living creatures and God

A.     vs. 1-3 Background

1.        Time: 30th year, 4th month, 5th day or the 5th year, 4th month, 5th day after King Jehoiachin’s captivity

2.        Location: By the River Chebar in the land of Chaldeans

3.        Who: Ezekiel, the son of Buzi

B.     vs. 4-21: The vision of 4 living creatures

1.        Comparison of 4 living creatures in Eze 1, Eze 10, and Rev 4

1.

4 living creatures (v.5)

Cherubim (v.1), it is also the living creature in Eze 1 (v.15,20,22)

4 living creatures (v.6)

2.

Likeness of a man (v.5)

 

 

3.

Each had the face of a man; each of the four had the face of a lion on the right side, each of the four had the face of an ox on the left side, and each of the four had the face of an eagle (v.6,10)

Each one had four faces: the first face was the face of a cherub, the second face the face of a man, the third the face of a lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle (v.14)

the likeness of their faces was the same as the faces which I had seen by the River Chebar (v.22)

The first living creature was like a lion, the second living creature like a calf, the third living creature had a face like a man, and the fourth living creature was like a flying eagle. (v.7)

 

4.

4 wings (v.6,11)

each one four wings (v.21)

The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within (v.8)

5.

Leg straight, like the sole of calves’ feet, sparkled like the color of burnished bronze(v.7)

 

 

6.

Hands of a man (v.8)

The cherubim appeared to have the form of a man's hand under their wings (v.8,21)

 

7.

Each of four had 4 faces and 4 wings (v.8)

Each one had four faces and each one four wings (v.21)

Each living creature has only one face (v.7) and each has 6 wings (v.8)

8.

Wings touched one another (v.9,11)

 

 

9.

Each one went straight forward (v.9,12)

When they went, they went toward any of their four directions (v.11)

 

10.

Did not turn when they went (v.9,12)

They did not turn aside when they went (v.11)

 

11.

They went wherever the Spirit wanted to go (v.12)

Followed in the direction the head was facing. (v.11)

 

12.

Their appearance like the burning colas of fire (v.13)

in among the wheels, under the cherub, fill your hands with coals of fire from among the cherubim (v.2)

 

13.

Like the appearance of torches going back and forth among the living creatures. The fire was bright, and out of the fire went lightning (v.13)

the cherub stretched out his hand from among the cherubim to the fire that was among the cherubim (v.7)

 

14.

The living creatures ran back and forth, in appearance like a flash of lightning (v.14)

 

 

15.

A wheel was on the earth beside each living creature (v.15)

there were four wheels by the cherubim, one wheel by one cherub and another wheel by each other cherub (v.9)

 

16.

The appearance of the wheels and their workings was like the color of beryl (v.16)

the wheels appeared to have the color of a beryl stone (v.9)

 

17.

and all four had the same likeness (v.16)

As for their appearance, all four looked alike (v.10)

 

18.

A wheel in the middle of a wheel (v.16)

As it were, a wheel in the middle of a wheel (v.10)

 

19.

As for their rims, they were so high they were awesome; and their rims were full of eyes (v.18)

And their whole body, with their back, their hands, their wings, and the wheels that the four had, were full of eyes all around (v.12)

 

four living creatures were full of eyes in front and in back (v.6)

20.

Wherever the 4 living creatures go, the wheels go with them (v.19-21)

When the cherubim went, the wheels went beside them (v.16-17)

 

21.

the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels (v.20-21)

the spirit of the living creature was in them (v.17)

 

22.

the noise of their wings, like the noise of many waters, like the voice of the Almighty, a tumult like the noise of an army (v.24)

the sound of the wings of the cherubim was heard even in the outer court, like the voice of Almighty God when He speaks (v.5)

They do not rest day or night, saying: "Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come! (v.8)

23.

Above their heads was the throne of God (v.26)

above the head of the cherubim, there appeared something like a sapphire stone, having the appearance of the likeness of a throne (v.1)

In the midst of the throne, and around the throne were four living creatures (v.6)

 

2.        What do these characteristics mean? And how can we apply them in our lives?

3.        Why Ezekiel ch.1, ch.10 and Rev ch.4 are different from each other?

C.     vs.       26-28: The vision of God

1.

And above the firmament over their heads was the likeness of a throne, in appearance like a sapphire stone; on the likeness of the throne was a likeness with the appearance of a man high above it. (v.26)

there in the firmament that was above the head of the cherubim, there appeared something like a sapphire stone, having the appearance of the likeness of a throne (v.1)

 

A throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne (v.2)

 

2.

Also from the appearance of His waist and upward I saw, as it were, the color of amber with the appearance of fire all around within it; and from the appearance of His waist and downward I saw, as it were, the appearance of fire with brightness all around (v.27)

 

 

And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance (v.3)

3.

Like the appearance of a rainbow in a cloud on a rainy day, so was the appearance of the brightness all around it (v.28)

 

there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald (v.3)

 

4.

This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD (v.28)

Then the glory of the LORD went up from the cherub (v.4)

 

 

2.        What do these characteristics mean? And how can we apply them in our lives?

3.        Why Ezekiel ch.1 and ch.10 are different from Rev Ch.4?

II.    Ezekiel Chapter 2: God sent Ezekiel to His people

A.     vs. 1-2: Get ready to preach God’s message

1.        God spoke to Ezekiel to stand on his feet

It means ‘Get ready to serve God and preach God’s message (Acts 26:16)’

2.        Spirit entered into Ezekiel

3.        Set me on my feet

4.        God spoke to Ezekiel

B.     vs .3-10: Principles of working for God

1.        Ezekiel was sent to a rebellious nation

 a.      Knowing the work is dealing with rebellious people who sin continuous against God (Eze 2:3-5)

 b.      Let the chosen people know that God has sent a prophet to them, for God still loves them (Eze 2:3-5)

2.        Do not be afraid of them (Eze 2:6)

 a.      Their rebellious people are described as briers, thorns, scorpions

 b.      Do not be dismay by their words and looks

3.        Speak the word (Eze 2:7)

Whether they accept or not, speak God’s word

4.        Eating the scroll (Eze 2:8-10)

Hear the Lord and accept God’s word into our hearts, so to be able to say God’s word

 a.      The message is not just for others, but also for himself

 b.      John in Revelation also ate the scroll and prophesized (Rev 10:8-11)
