Because Jesus wanted to accomplish God’s will and God willed to crush Jesus and make him suffer. God willed such a horrible death because Jesus was a guilt offering for others (Isa 53:10). Only by Jesus’ sacrifice could God realize his plan of redeeming sinners (Jn 18:11; 1 Jn 4:10). So Jesus willingly gave up his life to become a ransom for many (Mk 10:45). The Bible says that Jesus, “who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame†(Heb 12:2).
