Storing God's Word in Heart
The Lord told his people,
"And these words which I command you this day shall be upon your heart;
and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them
when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie
down, and when you rise..." (Deuteronomy 6:6-8). Unlike reading or
studying a piece of literature, we need to take the words of the Bible to heart
and think about how they apply to us.
A psalmist made this prayer,
"Oh, how I love thy law! It is my meditation all the day" (Psalms
119:97). Since God's words are so precious, we ought to keep them with us all
day. Then in our loneliness, frustration, or sorrow, the words that are in our
hearts will provide us with comfort and strength; in our confusion and doubt,
they will shed light on our path and lead us along.
