We cannot live apart from the world; Jesus commanded us to go into it, and be the light of the world: “A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand†(Mt 5:14-15). The important point is not to let worldly influences dim or overshadow our light. Believers can and should associate with nonbelievers, so long as their faith in God is unaffected and their relationship with God remains the top priority. After all, He has called us to “shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven†(Mt 5:16).
