Isn't baptism just a public declaration of your faith in Jesus and membership in a church?

Baptism is not simply a public expression of salvation. The Bible makes it clear that baptism is for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 22:16; 2:38). We receive Godâ€™s salvation through baptism (1 Pet 3:20-21; Col 2:11-12; Rom 6:3-4; Gal 3:26-27).
