Just as there is no reason to put off baptism after you have fully realized your sins and the need for Jesus Christ to save you with His cleansing blood, there should be no reason to put off footwashing. Like baptism, footwashing is a sacrament empowered with God’s grace. By following the Lord’s command, we share in His grace. As Jesus said, “If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them†(Jn 13:17). By receiving footwashing, we furthermore commit ourselves to following His footsteps, and participating in His divine nature. We accept the invitation to have a part in Him, and in His heavenly kingdom.
