Mirror for the Heart
"For the word of God is
living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division
of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and
intentions of the heart" (Hebrews ).
God's word helps us examine our faith and our conduct. It also brings to light
our hidden faults and sin. It is like a mirror that reflects all of our
shortcomings so we may change for the better.
The Bible is "profitable for teaching,
for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness." It equips
us to do the good works that God had created us to do. Therefore, the word of
God plays an essential part in the sanctification (setting apart for a holy
purpose) of believers. This is the reason Jesus prayed on behalf of the
believers, saying "Sanctify them in the truth; thy word is truth"
(John ).
