God raised Jesus from the dead (Acts 2:32; 1 Cor 6:14), for Jesus is the author of life (Acts 3:15). Jesus once said, “I have power to lay it [my life] down, and I have power to take it again†(Jn 10:18). He also said, “I am the resurrection and the life†(Jn 11:25). It was impossible for death to keep its hold over Jesus (Acts 2:24). Death was swallowed up by his resurrection (Isa 25:8; 1 Cor 15:26). Eternal life was revealed through Jesus (2 Tim 1:10). These are some of the many verses that show the significance of Jesus’ resurrection lies in Jesus’ power and authority over death. Sin, which results in death, was dealt a severe blow by Jesus’ atoning death. So Jesus essentially opened up the way to eternal life.
