Jesus began His ministry when He was thirty (Lk 3:23). A prophet named John was sent by God to prepare the way for Jesus. John the Baptist preached a baptism of repentance and pointed his disciples to the one who would come after Him and had greater power (Mt 3:1, 11). John said, “He must increase, but I must decrease†(Jn 3:30). Many of John’s disciples left John and followed Jesus.
