Food for the Soul
"Man shall not live by bread
alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." (Matthew 4:4).
Neither material possessions, luxury, fame, power, nor
education can satisfy the hunger of the soul. Many seek gratification in
alcohol, drugs, sex, or even the occult, only to find more emptiness and hurt.
God has given us this invitation,
"Ho, every one who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money,
come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without
money and without price. Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy?
Hearken diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in
fatness. Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may
live..." (Isaiah 55:1-3).
Only God himself can fill our
spiritual hunger and quench our thirst. We ought to turn from all evil and seek
the Lord by listening to his word. The joy of knowing the Lord and salvation is
something that money cannot buy, but can only be found in God's words.
