- “Let us know, Let us pursue the knowledge of the LORD. His going forth is established as the morning; He will come to us like the rain, Like the latter and former rain to the earth†(Hos 6:3). We should pursue and live by God’s truth, for the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth. God will only live with those who obey the truth (Acts 5:32). Seek the truth and God will give you the Holy Spirit.
- “Ask the LORD for rain In the time of the latter rain. The LORD will make flashing clouds; He will give them showers of rain, Grass in the field for everyone†(Zech 10:1). From this verse we learn we must ask for the Holy Spirit to be given. Elijah is a good example of asking for rain. “He [Elijah] prayed again and the heaven gave rain…†(Jas 5:18). Although it was in springtime, he had to ask for rain to make it come. The Bible tells us, “You do not have, because you do not ask†(Jas 4:2).
- “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me… He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches†(Rev 3:19–22). Sincere repentance are pre-conditions for receiving the Holy Spirit. Without sincerity and purity of heart and honest repentance we can’t find a way to God. The reason is simple: God hates the proud and deceitful, known characteristics of Satan. Insincerity and pride are the double-edged sword that will kill your chances of getting the Holy Spirit. God said, “Turn at my rebuke; Surely I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you†(Prov 1:23).
