What does Jesus Christ's name mean?

“Jesus” is an English transliteration of the Greek name for Jesus. In Hebrew, Jesus is Joshua, which means “the Lord is the Savior.” Jesus is God’s name (Mt 1:21; Isa 9:6), for by no other name can we be saved (Acts 4:12). Christ is not Jesus’ last name. Christ is derived from a Greek term, which means “Messiah” or “anointed one” in Hebrew. Christ is a title not a name, designating the fact God anointed Jesus for a purpose. In ancient times, Hebrew kings, prophets, and priests were anointed before they were consecrated to perform their respective roles. Christ is God’s anointed one, King of kings and Lord of lords (Rev 19:16; Jn 18:37).
